Today I did this.... because I figured tile wall was a good idea before hardwood floor. Made sense to me. I'm almost done this bloody kitchen relocation/renovation

Karlby from ikea, its a 3/16 oak veneer on press wood, wrapped on 4 sides.

A 25 inch by 72 inch countertop was 160, I believe. All in for the 18 feet of countertop and 72x50 inches of island I stand at under 800 dollars. Quartz can suck it lol
 
Yeah it looks better than stair stepping too because then it would always remind you of a crappy laminate floor installation.
How much have you paid yourself on this whole deal? Probably up past 10,000 is it?

If by paid myself what you really mean is depleted my cash, im at around 8K for rhe kitchen, structural beam, new appliances and flooring for my whole house. And people say renos are expensive pfffft

Running bond is a repetitive pattern. Not necessarily a stair step as Don mentioned. This is why I like to get specific when it comes to tile work. I had a job that I was clarifying what the pattern was going to be and I asked if it was subway set. The project manager said it was a running bond. Subway set is a running bond, a 1/2 step running bond. Don’s example and Mark’s kitchen are both 1/3 offset running bonds. They are just offset differently but they are both a 1/3 offset running bond.
