Yes its funny it starts off as its only a rental then if the floor isnt perfect it becomes a palace
Felt like that was happening on my job. I just posted a photo showing a wide room where I stretched it 1/2 way across then stay tacked it before completing the full stretch.
There is an adjoining living room with a pocket door. That room is over 1/2 inch lower than the other room. When measuring this job up a couple months ago, the owner said he didn't care if l played the two rooms different directions if it was easier.
Low profile cut and loop..... woulda looked like crap.
With over a half inch of difference between the two rooms I told him there isn't much way of seeming it together there. I'd have needed to feather it some filler over 4 feet out to make it remotely passable. I'm doing that would have created a hump that I'd have to feather out sideways also.
He said maybe just edge it with some wide metal.
I ended up fitting an oak threshold across the opening. I sanded it, staind it, and put four coats of a clear satin Rust oleum finish on it.
Before installing it he was beginning to throw a fit because people would trip over it. It was hard explaining to him how I planned to make it work. He just said "whatever" and left, still not understanding how I was was going to make it work.
I'll post a photo tomorrow. The renter really likes it. I really like it.....
....and like you said, Jon, it went from laying the carpet two different directions and nailing in some 2 1/2" flatbar....... to being picky.
It will look closer to a Palace than a barn when it's all vacuumed up.
