Looks nice Chris.
This would have been a nice job for Randy.

I asked the homeowner if I could use their bathroom. He said can you go outside?😳
It was -10 degrees out.
I have to drop the carpet 18” beyond this door

Years ago, I worked for a place that sold double-wides seaming the carpet together. What a PITA. One good company would have the strip down, and the carpet and pad cut to fit, but I would install it after the halves were put together.

C.J. Its all in the way the floor has been laid to make it look good isnt it :)

Floors are funny. The majority of the time it’s just another floor that doesn’t get much more attention than ‘That looks nice’. But screw a floor up just once and the whole world comes to a screeching halt. Funny how that works.

Unless there's something wrong with the bathroom, why the hell would someone ask a person working on their stuff to go outside? Sounds like a jerk!

I had stomach issues this morning. Slept most of the day. Picked up mail at the post office. My brother actually cooked so all I had to do was put it in a bowl and bring it to Mom. I'll have to put the rice away later because he doesn't believe in putting away his own leftovers.

Helped Mom install her H&R Block software. They had an asinine system where if you didn't follow their vague instructions to put in the verification code from the website (for which they did not provide a link) the installer would just be blank with no instructions like "go to (insert url) and put in code online". Nope. And the thing was, it said to click the support button once you found the url and then to click Register a New Computer but they didn't mention you had to click it twice bc the first time takes you to an FAQ. Mom downloaded the installer 10x and had a meltdown about it not working. 30 min of her trying to figure it out. I finally went and figured it out in about 5min and got it installed. What a pain in the ass though! Hashtag firstworldproblems

Telling workers they can't use the bathroom is far too common. I had it happen many times.

Don, I wouldn't want that job unless it was a five frame Wilton.
I once did a job, I think it totaled about 220 yards, that had a fireplace situation like that. It was probably 20 ft on one side and I can't remember maybe wider on the other side. It was probably closer to 50 ft long. Yes, it had butt seams on the sides of the fireplace.
Did the job by myself. The job was almost 100 miles away, so I took my sleeping bag with me and made myself at home upstairs in a smaller bedroom.
I didn't ask if I could use the bathroom. 😁

Yes its funny it starts off as its only a rental then if the floor isnt perfect it becomes a palace :)
Felt like that was happening on my job. I just posted a photo showing a wide room where I stretched it 1/2 way across then stay tacked it before completing the full stretch.
There is an adjoining living room with a pocket door. That room is over 1/2 inch lower than the other room. When measuring this job up a couple months ago, the owner said he didn't care if l played the two rooms different directions if it was easier. 🙄
Low profile cut and loop..... woulda looked like crap.
With over a half inch of difference between the two rooms I told him there isn't much way of seeming it together there. I'd have needed to feather it some filler over 4 feet out to make it remotely passable. I'm doing that would have created a hump that I'd have to feather out sideways also.
He said maybe just edge it with some wide metal.
I ended up fitting an oak threshold across the opening. I sanded it, staind it, and put four coats of a clear satin Rust oleum finish on it.
Before installing it he was beginning to throw a fit because people would trip over it. It was hard explaining to him how I planned to make it work. He just said "whatever" and left, still not understanding how I was was going to make it work.
I'll post a photo tomorrow. The renter really likes it. I really like it.....
....and like you said, Jon, it went from laying the carpet two different directions and nailing in some 2 1/2" flatbar....... to being picky.
It will look closer to a Palace than a barn when it's all vacuumed up.
