Ewwww, how did that fuzzy **** sneak on your van? 😂

I'm proud to say I got my carpet jobs down to about +/-12 a year!!

Had a talk with the shop I work out of and they got another crew to do most of the carpet! I only have to do the one's she doesn't trust the other crew to do. High end carpet, tailoring, friends of theirs, patterned goods etc.

Their usually a pain in the ass but at least it's only a few a year! I'll take it.
Hey, are you busy? I measured this one today. The upstairs of a 1912 house.
Owner says the closets may not need to be done.
It's the typical upstairs of an old house where the closets begin where the roof line tapers to a short wall inside. The closets, which hopefully will not to be done, are shaded in the drawing.
Make ya dizzy? 😵‍💫
I have more measurements on my original sketch, but more writing makes the image even more confusing.
The stairs could be made much harder to do..... But why? 😁
I haven't drawn up the downstairs yet.
Are you game Tom..... Might be able to talk them into a Wilton. 😉

Scroll saw. At times I wouldn't mind having a cnc but they are pricey and I'm not that confuser smart to operate it. I'm also terrible at reading instructions and following through with what I read.
I've watched a ton of CNC stuff especially machining. Absolutely unreal what those machines can do, but like you, trying to figure out how to tell it what to do would be impossible at this stage of life.

Sleeting hard now.
How long is this storm supposed to stick around? Looks nasty on the news. We're at 40. For the last week or more the lows have been near 27.
I hear you guys are supposed to have a layer of ice. With your luck, my advice is stay inside. You don't need to add a broken hip to the mix

Supposed to last 3 days. Ice and then lots of snow with 30 mph winds. We are staying home, I hope.

That's all you bud, lol. I really don't want to do carpet at all anymore. I feel like the money isn't worth the backbreaking trouble of dealing with it.

I can do half the sq ft of just about anything else and make twice the money.
I also feel like the home centers beat the profit out of it. Even know they use sneaky tactics to make up the money on their "free install" the customers already have it in their head that carpet installation isn't worth anything...... Because it's free, right?

I'm normally doing around $8 a yard and I still don't feel like it's worth it!!

I only do it for one shop and only if it can't be trusted to the other crews. I'll take that deal as long as they keep tossing steaks on my plate!

We're supposed to be getting dumped on the next couple days here in northern NY.
Their saying 12+ inches over the next 24hrs.....

Guess we'll see what happens?

To some people 8 bucks a yard seems crazy. For a profession, that's actually closer to reality.
Since I'm so special, 😁 I've been gifted with all the pattern goods and most of them tend to be cut and loop with the loops running lengthwise. It's kind of a pattern, but more like row cutting.
It's not rocket science, but definitely different than cut pile.
The shop asked me to start measuring these particular jobs and upon completion, giving them an installation price. They didn't tell me how much to charge, they asked me to give them my price to install the work that I measured. 👍
They also pay me $100 to do the measure, plus mileage if it's out of town.
I'll get paid $100 to measure a 6x8 bathroom or $100 for an entire house.
On the bathrooms I can score pretty big time wise. Most of my measures however tend to be a bit complicated, so the money isn't all that great but I'm not on my knees. 👍
The $100 they pay me is simply added into the price they charge to the customer for the materials so it doesn't actually cost them money if the get the job.
The only way they lose money is if I give them such a high price to customer goes elsewhere. I've kind of stuck my installations at $9 per yard and so far it's kind of working out.
Lowe's, Color Tile and Empire Carpets today can kiss my butt.
I'm not another brick on the wall.
I'm extremely lucky being able to name my price rather than being told what I'm going to get paid.
I'm very fortunate being able to call the shots to a good degree, on the work that I do. Very few shops let an installer determine the price of the installation. I feel quite blessed in that regard. It wasn't always that way but there seemed to be a meeting of the minds a couple years ago and our relationship changed for the better.
