I thought we'd actually have a short day 6.5-7.5 hours but it was a FULL 8.

UGLIEST floor I can recall laying and the school principle didn't like it. This is the third one I did like this and only the guy who chose the design likes it so far. Well, he signs the check so I guess we continue as is.

Tomorrow I do another one and the guy who helped me finish today is prepping another one for us to do when we complete the next one. I sure hope they change the color/pattern/scheme.

We had a guy that wanted a random pattern and walked into the room at measure a threw out a handful of pennies onto the floor and where they landed is where he wanted the off color. One way of being random.

I saw a sound wall (made from slumpstone) on a freeway recently where they would recess one block randomly. It was so random that it actually had a slight pattern, and this was why the original question.

OK, I see. The way we normally do "random" color VCT is take the proportional amounts and mix the tiles together. So in this case they want 80/20. You take 4 cartons of the field tile and 1 carton and lay off the entire dolly so across the whole 2500 square foot room the colored tiles will be equally distributed. In this instance rather than single tiles mixed in the way we normally do they wanted the school color feature tile in 2x2 squares.

So it's NOT really a random installation. It's a pattern with some degree of randomness. We are joking and confusing each other about exactly these points of contention all day whilst we hump tile. Today is was an orange MPR just south of the 60 freeway in the same school district.

The principal at the school with the blue tile was VERY nice to use but she made it very clear she hated the colors and design. We were done when she walked in. She actually told us the colors were giving her a headache. She made a big fuss with the district folk. They really don't care what she thinks. They control the buildings. She's there to manage the teachers who teach the children. All I can do is.........watch what I say.

I had to laugh today when everyone LOVED the orange.

So here's my joke/dilemna:
EITHER there is a pattern or it's random------with some percentage of distribution of the various colors, regardless how many.

You can't have a random pattern.

Every flooring guy I ever met in California has at least one professional grade moving dolly. It's just so competitive out here you wouldn't stand a chance with anything less. it would be like entering a donkey in the Santa Anita Derby.

They called me two days ago. They wanted me to go to the fire west of me and I was going to be in the command post, right in the damn police station where I worked for 25+ years. Nope, I told them I was busy.

I just got an alert to go to West Virginia. They have some serious flooding there. I may just go, but at my age, I really hate being away over holidays.

The older I get, the pickier I seem to be.
