I don't know if the media is intentionally dumbing people down, but I think they do play to the lowest common denominator. They try to appeal to emotion rather than intellect. Same with a lot of television shows. And many of the schools are going for rote memorization over critical thinking because they want students to just follow rules without question-- I went to a couple of schools like that.
I would say that there is a push from both sides of the spectrum to move away from the intentions of the founding fathers.
The rubber stamp public school system needs help, that's why so many people want private schools for their kids.
On a side note, I heard they voted to get rid of Trump's star on the walk of fame. While I'm no Trump fan, I think it sets a bad precedent. To my knowledge, there has never been any sort of moral qualification for people to have their names there. Are they going to start removing more names now if they find that some of the people had/have a dark history or did things that modern society now disapproves of? I also wonder how much Trump paid to have his name put there & if they will refund his money, because I don't think it's right for them to just remove it entirely when he paid for it to be there-- regardless of what people think of him.

Regardless of what happens with the Mueller investigation, I hope that we get some change in how the presidential elections are done. Going forward, we need to make sure all of the candidates can actually pass the security clearance. I don't know if Hillary could have passed due to the e-mail situation & the Whitewater scandal (where her prints were found on classified FBI documents that had gone missing). Trump certainly wouldn't have passed due to his connections to organized crime, Russia, deep debts (he was something like $600 million in debt when he ran for president), & history as a bulger rat.
Connections to organized crime? Have you told Mueller about that?
Once more, I don't know where you read this stuff. How come SNL, Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, The Washington Post, Bernie, Nancy, Chuck Schumer and the FBI don't know of his criminal ties?
I can't comment on the forest fires since I don't know enough about it. Seems like a shame to waste the wood though.
On the wood/firewood topic, they don't want the wood to get transported because the beetles are still in the wood. Shame there isn't a way to use it. I guess it makes compost for the next generation of trees.

It would be interesting to see the cost comparison between massive thinning operations resulting in usable forest products such as biofuel, paper and usable timber against the cost of fighting forest fires and the loss of usable timber.
Natural fires kept the underbrush out and probably were not as many big fires. Of course, people were not living in the wilderness and complaining about the wild animals either.

The senate race in Missouri is a tossup. Hawley, the Republican challenger, supports Trump's tariffs The tariffs are killing the farmers here. Soybeans have dropped 20% this year and much of Missouri is farm land. The farmers are usually Republican and the cities dwellers Democrats.

I agree that the school system needs help. The public school system is a joke in some places. Around here the schools are practically like prisons-- which is apropos considering this state has the highest incarceration rate per capita of anywhere in the US. Louisiana is #1 in incarcerations. I think also #1 in infant mortality rate.

There have been books written on the Trump family history as well as journalists who keep track of things. The only way Trump's grandfather could have turned a profit in the locations where he operated was if he was involved with the mob. Fred Trump pretty much had no choice but to be involved with the mob bc they took care of him and his mother after his father passed away. I follow numerous journalists who dig up actual court documents & follow the history & do investigations. The mainstream media hasn't latched on to some things because they found it more sensational to talk about porn stars. I'm sure Mueller knows about the mob connections-- taking down mob bosses was his thing when he was head of the FBI. It's entirely possible that I'm wrong and that people have misinterpreted things, but it all makes sense in the scheme of things. It would explain so much about Trump's history & with what is going on now.
Interesting that Chris Collins was indicted. I think that is signalling that more of the bigger fish are going to be reeled in.

Only mentioning Trump's name automatically implies nobody else pays.

...I still don't 'like' him. I just like what he's doing and the 'out of the park' way that he's doing it.
Just wait until the US goes bankrupt. The fact that he went bankrupt seven times should prove something. He has several lawsuits for not paying contractors.

The U.S. isn't going bankrupt. Some people just hope it will. Thanks to Trump we are stronger and more respected (feared) than ever before. Trump is playing a poker hand to other nations and calling their bluff. Finally a president with gusto. No more of the white flag waving, apologetic to the world Obama era BS.
Trump has started or owned over 500 companies (Some are only Trump licensed businesses) ....... 5 or 6 bankruptcy filings isn't bad. Most were casinos. Bankruptcy filings can mean renegotiating a loan rate, not a failure. Trump hate is rampant because he's an egotistical SOB. My ego is just as big as his is, ...but it's disproportionately balanced with insecurity and fear of failure.
How come nobody cares about failures other than Trump?

The democratic leadership is running on Trump hate and open borders. They can't stand that Trump is succeeding in everything he said he would do and the people that voted for him are cheering him on.
